Statement of Purpose:
19th century plantation house; 19th century decorative arts; 20th century art by regionalist, Hobson Pittman and others.
To preserve and provide information about the material
culture of Edgecombe County, with an emphasis on the lives and careers of
Thomas Blount (1759-1812) US Congressman, and Hobson Pittman (1899-1972)
American regionalist artist.
Highlights & Collections:
Restored 1810 plantation house, with collection of 19th C.
decorative arts; permanent collection of 20th C. aart by Pittman and other
American artists.
Exhibits & Special Events:
Period rooms, featuring interpretation of life-styles of Blounts,
Louis Dicken Wilson (1789-1847 NC Senate) and John Luther Bridgers
(1828-1881 CSA Commandant Ft. Macon) ; 19th and early 20th C. tools,
textiles, ceramics; paintings, drawings, prints by Hobson Pittman, Frank
London, Eliot Daingerfield, Eugene H. Thomason, others. Traveling exhibits
of contemporary art alternate with exhibits for permanent collection on
bi-monthly basis.

- Adults $2.00
- Edgecombe County residents: free.
From I-95, take U.S. Highway 64 East to Tarboro. Take exit 484 and turn right at top of exit ramp. Proceed 1/4 mile to the stop sign, and turn left on McKendree Church Rd.(which becomes Wilson Street) Proceed into town and through 3 traffic
lights.(Western Blvd., Albemarle Ave., & Main St.) Turn left on St. Andrew Street. Go three blocks and the museum sits in Square at Bridgers and St. Andrew Streets.
