Statement of Purpose:
The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center Wilberforce, Ohio
The NAAMCC is a dynamic, living institution. Our donors and volunteers contribute in countless ways to help us honor the African American legacy. Our outreach programs in schools, educational services and traveling exhibits encourage a heightened
appreciation for Black history and culture. The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center serves all Americans by promoting better understanding of and respect for the African American heritage.

Exhibits & Special Events:
- From Victory to Freedom: Afro-American Life in the Fifties
"From Victory to Freedom" chronicles the crucial period in American history from 1945 to 1965 - from victory in World War II to freedom through passage of federal civil rights legislation. Integral to the exhibit is "Music As Metaphor," an inspiring,
award-winning film presentation on Black music of the period. Photographs and artifacts representing business, education, religion, popular culture, fashion and other aspects of African American life recreate a period of social struggle and wrenching
change in U.S. history.
Special Events
The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center is the scene of happenings all year long - Martin Luther King Day Celebration in January, programs throughout February for Afro-American History Month, the "Oldie But Goodie" Classic Car Show in the
spring, Holiday Festival of Black Dolls in October, and Kwanza in December. From scholarly to purely entertaining, there's something for everyone, young and old alike.
Changing Exhibits
Every few months we present a new and exciting exhibit featuring themes in Black history or the arts. Diverse educational programs are developed to augment and complement these special exhibits, including lectures, films, and workshops.
Future Development
When all four phases of development are complete, the NAAMCC complex will total 240,000 square feet, including exhibit space, an art gallery, theatre, children's museum, classrooms, library, storage and conservation areas, and more - all the facilities
needed for a full service museum. The first phase was completed in 1987 and opened to the public in April, 1988. The 35,000 square foot contemporary glass and granite building is bordered by a beautiful wooded area, with offices and storage space located
nearby in the restored Carnegie Library.

One half mile west of Route 42 in Wilberforce, Ohio, on the original site of Wilberforce University, adjacent to Central State University.
