Statement of Purpose:
American art, prints and photographs; European, Far Eastern and
Oceanic artworks; ethnographic material from Africa and Mexico.
Highlights & Collections:
The Hofstra Museum is located on the campus of Hofstra University
just 25 miles east of New York City. The Museum includes three gallery
locations including Emily Lowe Gallery, where changing exhibitions
feature works from the permanent collection of over 4,600 objects,
along with eclectic exhibitions of past to contemporary art.
The 240-acre campus is an arboretum as well as sculpture garden
featuring 70 works by renowned artists such as Seymour Lipton, Paul
Manship, Henry Moore, Tony Rosenthal, John Safer and others.
The growing collection includes works by Cocteau, Dali, Gauguin,
Grosz, Magritte, and Picasso. American artists are a primary focus with
works by Benny Andrews, Will Barnett, Romare Bearden, Audrey Flack,
Helen Frankenthaler, Red Grooms, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg,
Larry Rivers among others.
Exhibits:
The Hofstra Museum mounts between 10
and 15 exhibitions throughout the year. Check the website at www.hofstra.edu/museum for
current exhibition information and directions.

Directions
Please
note: University parking is
limited on the South Campus near the Hofstra Museum.
- By
automobile, the Hofstra Museum can be reached easily by
main east-west and north-south roads. Of the parkways, Meadowbrook Parkway
is the closest; it runs north and south between the Southern State
Parkway and Northern
State Parkway. Leave Meadowbrook Parkway
at exit M4 West (Coliseum, Hempstead Turnpike West). Continue on
Hempstead Turnpike for four traffic lights. Make a U-turn at
the fourth light and then take the next right into the University
parking lot. Continue to the stop sign. The
Emily Lowe Gallery of the Hofstra
Museum will
be on your left. There
are 3 visitor spaces directly in front of the Lowe Gallery.
- By
train: Take the Long
Island Railroad (LIRR) from Penn Station to Hempstead
(last stop on that line). Take taxi to Emily Lowe Gallery, Hofstra Museum,
Hofstra
University.
The Hofstra Courtesy Bus meets most trains and can drop you at the
campus.
