Statement of Purpose
To continue the work of Thornton W. Burgess, children's author and pioneer
conservationist.
"To inspire reverence for wildlife and concern for the natural environment"
through education.
We welcome memberships in the Thornton Burgess Society
to support our educational purpose.

Highlights & Collections
At the Green Briar Nature Center, you will find a quiet corner of Cape Cod
- a sanctuary of peace and beauty in all seasons. Located on the shores of
"Smiling Pool" and adjacent to the famous "Biar Patch" of Thornton Burgess'
stories, Green Briar offers natural history exhibits, live animals, a spectacular
wildflower garden and nature trails through the 57-acre Briar Patch Conservation
Area. Visitors may also tour through Green Briar Jam Kitchen, a "living museum"
where jams are still made using turn-of-the-century methods. Gift shop offers
jams, jellies, relishes and nature-related items. Sales help to support the
nature center's educational programs.
Robert S. Swain Natural History Library (1,600 volumes for study and research)
Natural history specimens from the fields of: ornithology, mamology, geology,
archeaology and herbaria.
Award-winning Wildflower Garden

Exhibits & Special Events
Exhibits about Thornton Burgess and natural history of the area. Classes,
trails, animals.
Explore the world of herbs through special exhibits, lectures, garden walks,
an extensive plant sale, and a delightful herb luncheon.
