Statement of Purpose:
The Sheldon Swope Art Museum exists to collect,
preserve, exhibit and interpret the best of American art, with special emphasis
on painting and sculpture of the first half of the twentieth century and on
Wabash Valley artists past and present.
Highlights & Collections:
Experience a world class collection of 19th and 20th century American art
in a historical Italian Renaissance-style building with an Art Deco interior.
The Swope has an outstanding collection of l9th and 20th century American
art, including work by Thomas Cole, William Merrit Chase, Albert Bierstadt,
T.C. Steele, George Bellows, Gordon Samstag, George Luks, Jack Levine, Zoltan
Sepeshy, Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Aaron Bohrod, William
Thon, Peter Hurd, Georges Schreiber, Moses Soyer, Yrjo Edelman, Paul Jenkins,
Andy Warhol, Robert Indiana and Jacob Lawrence.
