The mission of the
The Museum, through its programs, exhibitions and collections, will foster an understanding and appreciation of the following for families, school children and people of all ages and backgrounds:
KidSpace
- This unique exhibit, designed for kids five and under, brings the
outdoors in and creates a fanciful space featuring a giant tree house, clouds
that rain balls into a special ball pond, puzzles, games and elements
encouraging physical play. This area also provides for the needs of families,
with a nursing room for mothers and infants as well as a Big Kids Room
for older siblings while the little ones play.

Tools as Art: Selections from the Hechinger
Collection and additional Works by West Virginia Artists
Tools as Art: The Hechinger Collection is an exhibition of more than 75 pieces by twentieth century artists. A variety of elegant and witty artworks in wood, glass, metal, paper and stone feature hammers, saws, wrenches, and machine tools. An invitational component to Tools as Art features work by 18 West Virginia artists who have produced works based on the Tools as Art theme.

American Accents, 1670-1945: Masterworks
from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Featuring the Rockefeller
Collection.
A traveling exhibition of 88 masterpieces from the permanent collection of the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco spans three centuries of American Art. American Accents is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the most significant works of American art in the world. Sixty-five of the artworks in American Accents are from the Rockefeller Collection donated to the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco by John and Blanchette Rockefeller III.

The Age of Armor
The Age of Armor features selections from the rich collection of the Higgins Armory Museum, the only museum in United States dedicated to armor. The Age of Armor includes 60 pieces of armor from the late Middle Ages through the Renaissance. Items in the collection include a simple, elegant breastplate created by master craftsmen in Milan, elaborate etched and gilded horse armor from southern Germany and a complete suit of armor. The exhibition examines the art of creating armor, its diverse uses, and the various criteria used by connoisseurs to understand these artifacts.
Permanent Collection:
The Permanent Collection of Art, is accessible year-round to visitors, students and researchers. The Museum’s collection consists of more than 750 pieces of unique and distinguished artworks. Members of the Juliet Museum of Art Collectors Club purchase a new artwork for the Collection each year. The Juliet Museum of Art dedicates 3,500 square feet of its 9,000 square feet of gallery space for the Permanent Collection. While the collection consists of primarily of works on paper by American artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, charming examples of sculpture and other mediums offer diversity and exposure to broad cultural topics.
ElectricSky™ Theater:
The ElectricSky™ Theater is one of the most exciting
elements in the Avampato Discovery Museum’s new
facility, providing an experience unlike any other in the state or region. Programming in this space not only
expands the former Sunrise Museum offerings in astronomy and space science, but
adds an entirely new educational and entertainment dimension for the Avampato Discovery Museum’s audiences. Featuring a 61-foot tilt- forward dome,
the theater seats 175 and has numerous uses beyond its standard program menu
including lectures, rentals, and special performances. Core ElectricSky™ programs
include:
Large Format (8/70) Film (daily)
The large format projection system enables a
dynamic sensory experience. At
lease three films are shown each year.
Films explore a variety of topics and have both an entertainment and
educational appeal. Favorites among
viewers nationwide are films exploring the seas and oceans, adventure films, and
films that transport audiences to the far reaches of the globe. Currently
showing is Journey Into
Amazing Caves.
Planetarium Shows
(daily)
A star-ball with the ability to present more than 10,000 stars is the centerpiece of the theater. Additional special effects as well as sophisticated video projection systems and the use of a dazzling library of images enables us to present shows that are rich in educational content and appealing to an audience accustomed to sophisticated technology.
Laser
Fantasy (Friday and Saturday evenings; Sunday
matinees)
Capitalizing on the Theater’s phenomenal sound
system, laser concerts last approximately one hour and provide a unique visual
experience choreographed to a vast array of music. Everything from Pink Floyd to Metallica to the Beatles to Hip-Hop to Country to the
Nutcracker can be seen – numerous shows will be scheduled throughout the year
and will change often.
Tuesday-Saturday: 10-5; Sunday: 12-5.
