Statement of Purpose:
The Joseph and Margaret Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of
William and Mary is dedicated to the enrichment of cultural life on
campus, in the community and throughout the Peninsula region. College
students, members of the public, interest groups, and preschool
through high school students are among the many who visit the Museum
and enjoy its programs. The Museum, built entirely with private
funds, was completed in 1983 and expanded in 1987. In 1988 the
Muscarelle Museum of Art was accredited by the American Association
of Museums indicating that the highest level of professional
standards have been achieved in the care of the collections and the
development of public programs.
Highlights & Collections:
A diverse permanent collection with works ranging from 10th century
ceramics to late 20th century paintings.
European and American master paintings.
The Museum's art collection began in 1732 when the third Earl of
Burlington gave The College of William Mary a portrait of the
physicist, Robert Boyle. Since then, the collection has grown to over
three thousand works of art and stands as a major artistic resource
for the College and the region.

Hours:
- Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
- Saturday through Sunday, 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Admission & Directions:
Open to the public without charge.
Directions:
From I-64, exit 242A (Route 199 West) for 5 miles to Jamestown Road
(Route 31 North). Turn right on Jamestown Road for 1.25 miles. The Museum
is located on the left side of the road next to Phi Beta Kappa Hall.
