Statement of Purpose:

The Neuberger Museum of Art at Purchase College, State University of New York, has a two-fold mission:

  1. to serve as a cultural resource for diverse audiences on a local, regional and national level; and
  2. to inspire creative excellence and support scholarship within the academic community of Purchase College, SUNY.

The Museum advances its mission programatically through the expansion and care of its permanent collection of modern, contemporary, African art and ancient Mediterranean art, as well as through the presentation of a wide range of exhibitions (many of which travel), publications and related educational and interdisciplinary programs that foster a knowledgeable appreciation of the arts by the general public, enhance the visual literacy of the student body, and support the interdisciplinary curriculum of Purchase College.

The Neuberger Museum of Art is located on the campus of Purchase College, SUNY, Westchester County, New York.

The Museum is a major visual arts center and vital cultural resource, combining the scale and excitement of a city museum with the charm of a country setting.

Selections from the Roy R. Neuberger Collection More than sixty works drawn from the Museum. s permanent collection of American art. Includes major works by Milton Avery, Romare Bearden, Willem de Kooning, Richard Diebenkorn, Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, Edward Hopper, Seymour Lipton, Isamu Noguchi, Jackson Pollock, and David Smith.

Object and Intellect: African Art from the Permanent Collection

19th and 20th century works that reflect African traditions, rites, and religious beliefs. This is Westchester County. s only permanent display of African art.

Ancient Civilizations: The Roy R. Neuberger Collection

A new installation of antique art from the permanent collection that features work from ancient Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations. This small, select grouping of objects, in tangent with other paintings and sculpture from the Roy R. Neuberger Collection, emphasize the Neuberger Museum founding patron. s wide-ranging eye and taste for art.

The Neuberger Museum of Art is a major visual arts center and vital cultural resource, combining the scale and excitement of a city museum with the charm of a country setting. The Neuberger Museum of Art is located on the campus of Purchase College, SUNY, Westchester County, New York, an institution of public higher education encompassing the liberal arts and sciences, professional training in the performing and visual arts, Continuing Education, The Performing Arts Center, and the Neuberger Museum of Art.

Museum and Museum Store hours are 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Closed Mondays and major holidays. Museum Café hours are 11:30 am to 2:30 pm Tuesday through Friday, Noon to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $4.00 adults, $2 seniors and students with valid ID. Museum members and children 12 and under are admitted free at all times.

Directions. From the South take Hutchison River Parkway to CT Exit 27 (during duration of Hutchison/Merritt construction). Make a left toward Purchase; right onto Anderson Hill Road; Purchase College campus is on the left. From the North: Merritt Parkway to Exit 27. Make a right onto King Street and a left on Anderson Hill Road. The campus is on the right about one-half mile down the road.

East: Route 287 (Cross Westchester Expressway) to Exit 8E. Take second left over Expressway onto Anderson Hill Road.

Follow signs to SUNY Purchase.

North or South on 684: to Exit 2. South on Route 120 to

Anderson Hill Road. Left turn to second light. Turn left into

Purchase College campus. Free parking is available in the No. 1 parking lot. For persons with special needs, designated parking is available at the south end of the Museum building.
