Statement of Purpose:

Since 1937 the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art has had as its mission: to provide opportunities for visual arts education and to develop visual arts awareness and appreciation throughout eastern Georgia and western South Carolina.

Highlights & Collections:

Founded in 1937, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is a non-profit art school and gallery.  The Institute is housed in Ware's Folly(circa 1818, Nat'l. Register of Historic Places) in the historic corridor of downtown Augsuta, Georgia.

A variety of studio art classes and workshops, including drawing, painting, ceramics, weaving and photography are offered to people of all ages and experience levels.  With no permanent collection, the Institute annually coordinates approximately eight exhibitions of artwork from local, regional and national artists. 
 
Traditional and contemporary exhibitions; paintings and graphics.

Exhibits:

Exhibitions in the Main Gallery rotate approximately every two months.  Local, regional and national artists are shown. Please call for a current exhibition schedule.

Hours:

Tues - Fri, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sat, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Closed holidays.

Admission & Directions:

Free; donations encouraged.
Group tours available with advance notice.
