George Eastman House is an independent nonprofit museum of photography and motion pictures located on the grounds of the restored home of George Eastman.
The Museum was established to tell the story of photography and related media that have changed and continue to change our perception of the world. We offer the oppurtunity to experience the Eastman mansion and gardens and to learn about the man who made
picture taking accessable to everyone.
Highlights:
This 12.5-acre estate in the heart orf Rochester's cultural district combines the treasures of the world's leading museum of photogrphy and motion pictures with the stately pleasures of the landmark Colonial Revival mansion and gardens George Eastman
called home.
Located on historic East Avenue in Rochester, the museum site was the urban estate
of George Eastman (1854-1932), founder of the Eastman Kodak Company. Opened in 1949, the
Museum includes Eastman's restored house and gardens, an archives building and research
center, galleries, two theaters, and an education center. The Museum displays the art,
technology, and impact of photography and cinema over 150 years.
