Fort Ancient, a renowned North American archaeological site, features evidence of two prehistoric American Indian cultures.
Sometime between 100 B.C. and A.D. 500, the Hopewell built earthworks here, including mounds and more than 3.5 miles of earth-and-stone walls.
The Fort Ancient people (A.D. 900-1500) later occupied the site.
One of the nation's finest examples of a Hopewell hilltop enclosure, the earthwork is a National Historic Landmark.
The 764-acre memorial park offers a museum, scenic vistas, shelter houses, and hiking and picnicking.
