One of two National Museums of Asian art at the Smithsonian. The Freer also houses the most important collection of work by artist James McNeill Whistler, including the "Peacock Room" in permanent display.

The Freer possesses one of the world's finest collection of Asian art with objects dating from Neolithic times to the early 20th century.
Such artists as Sargent and Dewing are represented in its smaller American collection, including the world's most important collection of works by James McNeill Whistler. "Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room", Whistler's only existing interior
design scheme is permanently installed here.
An underground exhibition space connects the Freer with the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery.
