Statement of Purpose:

Bringing together art and science

The Mission of the Discovery Museum is to serve as a major educational resource which presents art and physical science and their interrelationship with an emphasis on participatory exhibits

The Discovery Museum seeks to enhance public understanding of the visual arts by providing instructive experiences through visitor interaction with distinctive participatory art exhibits, traditional fine art galleries, the collections and interpretive programs

The Discovery Museum seeks to enhance public understanding of the physical sciences by providing instructive experience through participant interaction with hands-on physical science exhibits, Planetarium programs, the Challenger Learning Center and interpretive programs.

Highlights & Collections:

Daily planetarium shows, art exhibits and a see, hear, touch hands-on experience on three fun-filled floors including the newly added weekend attraction of Virtual Basketball.

The Henry B. duPont III Planetarium runs shows daily for pre-schoolers and for school age and above. The Challenger Learning Center provides a wonderful learning experience for groups. The Hands-On Galleries feature exhibits about space, light, magnets, computers and the all new Virtual Basketball.

American art, both historic and contemporary, with an emphasis on regional art and particularly that of Connecticut.

From Connecticut Turnpike (I-95)

• Exit 27A - Route 8 & 25 (whether traveling east or west) Take Exit 4 - Lindley St. - Left turn onto Lindley St. At first sop light (Capitol Avenue) turn left.
• Continue about 1 mile to Park Ave.
• Turn right onto Park Ave.
• Continue North about 2 miles - The Museum driveway and free parking lot are on the right just beyond the Museum.

From Merritt Parkway (Route 15)

• Exit 47 (whether traveling east or west)
• Take a left turn onto Park Ave.
• Go one mile south, Museum driveway and free parking lot are on the left..

From I-84 Eastbound and Busses:

• Exit 10 in Newtown.
• Turn right onto Church Hill St.
• Continue to flag pole (Rte. 25)
• Turn left onto Route 25 - Head south to Rte. 111.
• In Trumbull turn right onto Rte. 111.
• Pass Trumbull Shopping Park.
• Turn Right at first stop light onto Old Town Road.
• Turn left at second traffic light onto Park Ave.
• Continue .5 miles and the Museum is on the left.

From I-84 Westbound (cars only)

• (Southbound Rte 8 & 15)
• I-84 to Route 8 South
• Take the Merritt Parkway - Rte 15 South (EXIT 10)
• Take Exit 47
• Left onto Park Ave.
• One mile south to the Museum.
