Statement of Purpose

The Museum of Tolerance, the Center's educational arm, is a 165,000 sq. ft., eight story facility, founded to challenge visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts. It is a high tech, hands-on experiential Museum that focuses on two themes through unique interactive exhibits: the dynamics of racism and prejudice in America and the history of the Holocaust - the ultimate example of man's inhumanity to man.

Since opening in 1993, well over two million people have visited the Museum of Tolerance, including thousands of students who tour the facility each week. A special grant from the state of California enables over 7,000 law enforcement professionals and thousand more in the fields of education, health care, social services, human relations and business to experience the Museum's acclaimed "Tools For Tolerance" program each year. To this end, the Museum opened a new educational resource center in January 1998.
