Statement of Purpose

The museum operating under the auspices of the Monroe County Historical Society collects and displays artifacts relating to the history of Monroe County, Indiana and the state of Indiana.

Highlights & Collections

Two galleries of temporary displays currently showing the Civil Air Patrol and Costumes of Elegant Fabrics from the Elizabeth Sage Collection. Permanent exhibits featuring the history of Monroe County Indiana including such things as a completely outfitted log cabin, school room, stone cutter exhibit and Showers Furniture.

Working in Monroe, Playing in Monroe, Educating in Monroe, Protecting in Monroe, and Traveling in Monroe.

Current Exhibits and Upcoming Special Events

Items rotate through the collections described above on a timely basis. The available artifacts number about 50,000.

• Civil Air Patrol, down by July 31 - plane models, uniforms, high points, coming events.
• Elizabeth Sage, down by August 15 - elegant constumes in rare fabrics.
• Fall Festival October 15 to November 28 - Ghosts, spooks, and hauntings revealed through documents and artifacts.
• Holiday Festival December 1 to January 2, 2000 - public loans items to match a theme, often related to toys or gifts.
