Statement of Purpose
The mission of the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum is to preserve, research, and interpret: Whitehall; the associated collections; and materials related to the life of Henry Morrison Flagler; all unique and important elements of Florida's history and America's Gilded Age.
Highlights & Collections
Standard Oil Company founding partner Henry Flagler's
Florida East Coast Railway and the luxury hotels he built along the way, linked
the entire east coast of Florida, establishing agriculture and tourism as
Florida's leading industries and Palm Beach as a world-renowned winter resort.
When it was completed in 1902, Whitehall, Flagler's Gilded Age estate in Palm
Beach, was hailed by the New York Herald as "more
wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private
dwelling in the world." Today, Whitehall is a National Historic
Landmark and is open to the public as the Flagler Museum, featuring
guided tours, Flagler's private railcar, changing exhibits, and special programs.
